Deeksha Malhotra
IRVINE, CA (December 2, 2008) – On the campus of the University of California of Irvine, The Association for Women in Technology held a luncheon for their 2008 scholarship winner, Deeksha Malhotra. In applying for the scholarship, Deeksha demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership and contributions in increasing diversity in computer science, as well as financial need. AWT holds events such as the Annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction to help raise proceeds for the AWT Charitable Foundation. This Foundation awards scholarships and gives funds to other causes that help support women and girls working or studying in the field of technology.
Deeksha is a UCI student studying Information and Computer Science at the Donald Bren Information and Computer Science Department, a world-class research environment.
Deeksha was awarded $1,700, and she said “this scholarship helps pay for my college fees, and has really meant a lot to me”. At the luncheon, Deeksha said she was inspired by the luncheon, and by discussing career opportunities, and by hearing about the professional lives of women in IT.
