Experience the Power of Positive Connections

Girl Scout Program

AWT is working in partnership with the Girl Scout Council of Orange County. AWT's mission is to introduce young women to technology. We are doing this by providing monthly workshops for young girls through Girl Scouting. We also participate in a career planning annual event for Cadettes (middle school aged girls) called "From Dreams to Reality" in February.

Registration for the girls is handled by the Girl Scout office. AWT provides the training and materials, adult volunteers, a light breakfast and lunch. Training sessions are held at various corporate venues around Orange County. To date we have used training facilities at Ascolta, Fluor, New Horizons Learning Center and UCI.

Once a month we provide classes to 20 Girl Scouts and are able to assist them in earning a computer related badge. Badge requirements and the badges are provided by the Girl Scouts.

AWT members are encouraged to volunteer to assist during the training - a solid familiarity with navigating around Microsoft operating systems (XP and Windows 2000 typically), Microsoft Word, Paint and Internet Explorer are needed. The workshops are typically held on Saturdays, from 9am to Noon.

NOTE: The Girl Scouts Council of Orange County is modifying their programming and have asked us to put the program on hold until September 2006.
Thanks for your interest! Please check back in September.
